So some of my Two Peas cohorts reminded me today that I haven't updated in awhile. I have mostly been blogging on my new Photography Blog Golden Brook Photography so this blog has been sorely neglected. However I have knitted tons of stuff since the last time I updated (obviously) and decided to post a few!

First off my clapotis scarf that I gave to my MIL for Christmas!

Pattern: Clapotis
Needles : Size 8 Bryspuns
Yarn: BMFA Socks that Rock heavyweight in the color "purple rain"
Modifications: I only did 3 repeats to make this more scarf like. I really like it this size, I had a REALLY hard time giving it up after spending so much time on it! It took me a loooooong time to knit it, LOL.

Second up I have one of my cutest FO's to date. It is the Baby Mine Sweater by the Harlot:

Pattern: Baby Mine
Needles: Size 5 Bryspun circs
Yarn: BMFA mediumweight in "Lucky"
Modifications: None. This is a GREAT pattern, I am definitely going to be using it in the future for my go to baby sweater. It went really fast and used just under a full skein of mediumweight for the 6 month size.

That is what I have for today to not be too overwhelming, but I have tons more projects to share in the (hopefully near) future!

Rainbow Sophie

A couple of weeks ago we were discussing on Knitty the subject of knitted toys. I ran across Sophie a sweet little girlie bunny. Well I have been wanting to knit Oliver a toy, and the pink bunny wouldn't work. So I decided to make a boyish Sophie.

Pattern: Sophie

Yarn: I used the yarn from my Funky Sock Monkey kit, Fire on the Mountain and Sherbert, both STR heavyweight.

Needles: Because I wanted a bigger bunny than the original pattern called for, I used size 6 needles instead of 2's.

Notes: Like I said I upped the yarn size and the needle size. Other than that I followed the pattern exactly.

I love this bunny. I don't think it turned out too girly, and it is the perfect size I envisioned.

Adored the pattern, extremely easy to follow and I can't wait to make the next patterns in her collection, the elephant and the polar bear!!

Tweedy Mr. Greenjeans

Well, she's done. After languishing for 3 months with only a sleeve and a button band to do, I got a push from my knitty friends and finished it. It is a GORGEOUS sweater, with the perfect yarn. I will definitely be using the Kathmandu again, it is so soft and beautiful.

Here is a pic:

What? Oh you noticed that isn't me?? Yeah, that is because the sweater doesn't fit me. Again. Third time is NOT a charm to me apparently. Want proof?

See that? Too short in the waist. Too big in the boobs.

Now, I know the pattern has issues with being too big in the chest area already. But I also stopped nursing my son, and lost 12 lbs since I started making this sweater. The combo is a sweater that just doesn't fit me. Dammit.

However, look at how good it looks on my mom who is 3 inches shorter then me:

She also has big boobs, which helps. Takes the sting out of it a little bit. Plus her birthday is coming up, and I didn't know what I was going to get her, so I guess that dilemma is solved.

It really does look so much better on her. That picture of me up there? it was the most flattering I could find. It really isn't a great sweater for me. It would be fab if it had a smaller chest and longer waist. Will there EVER be a sweater that I will make that I can wear? (sob.)

Needles: KP Harmony DPN's and my Denises

Notes: I got the buttons from Joann's. I lenthened the sleeves by decreasing down to 48 stitches (the sleeves actually fit my arms well) and then knitting 3 inches before starting the cabling. Also added 4 buttons instead of just one. Definitely a fun knit, but I am a slow sweater knitter because I always have so many WIPS at a time.

Little baby socks and a BSJ!

I have been really bad at blogging lately. I blame Ravelry. It is much easier to just upload all the info, fill out the forms and voila you are done. I have decided to try to blog all my projects too though, just for my own personal satisfation. :)

So I am on a baby sock making kick. I have a friend due in May, so I made her a Baby Surprise Jacket and had enough yarn left over from the December shipment of the Rockin Sock Club to make some little socks to match:

Yarn: STR lightweight in Bella Coola from Dec. RSC shipment
Needles: Jacket, size 5 bryspun, socks size 3 KP harmony circulars

The socks are the Little Sky Socks from "New Pathways for Sock knitters" by Cat Bordhi. Super cute and easy to knit!

Then I also made some Little Coreolis socks for another friend in STR lightweight in the colorway Sherbert:

(um yeah, I really need to bleach my grout apparently)

I have also made 2 more pairs of baby socks and another pair of Saartje's booties, but haven't uploaded the pictures yet.

The trouble with Big Projects...

and a knitting blog, is that you don't update very often. But luckily I am updating right now!! I have finished the Tilted Duster!

I didn't mind knitting this sweater at all, which is an improvement. My Cardigan for Arwen took forever because after I finished the first two halves I couldn't get through the miles of stockinette on the back.

It took about 5 weeks, which really isn't too bad considering how little knitting time I get nowadays. (My youngest is a climber. Keeps me on my toes constantly.) Unfortunately this sweater, while originally for me, looks HORRIBLE on me. Seriously. I couldn't even wear it to take pictures in. Luckily my sister tried it on and it looks as though it was made for her. So she will get the sweater, and was nice enough to model it for me for the blog and Ravelry!!

Pattern: Tilted Duster by Gaughan

Yarn: Berocco Peruvia in Tobacco

Needles: Size 9

Notes: First off, this yarn, while some of the softest I have worked with and honestly SO soft against the skin was a BITCH to seam with. Seriously I wanted to poke myself in the eye with my darning needle the yarn broke so many times. I honestly think it will be the time I do a sweater in one ply. Also the stitch definition was difficult to see because of the halo of the yarn.

The pattern itself was actually a pretty fun knit. Mostly mindless, with just enough decreases and increases to keep it interesting. Overall, I really enjoyed knitting it. It was my first time with set in sleeves and while I don't think I did that great of a job, I also don't think I did a terrible one. Over all, I give this sweater a B.

The only reason it didn't get an A is because it didn't fit!! :(

But here are the pictures of what my Rut Busting Secret Swap pal sent me!! I literally gasped when I saw THIS goodness come out of the box:

How incredibly beautiful is that yarn? The colorway is called "Playing with Matches" and seriously that is the perfect name for it. LOL

And she also sent me a ton of other goodies!!

What you see here is a clear project bag from The Loopy Ewe which I LOVE and have been wanting to try. My hat in progress is in there right now.

There is also an ADORABLE sheep tape measure (thank you, I am down to one of those) some hand balm, a really cute little pink knitting notebook, some SOAK wash (I have been really really wanting to try these, I am so glad I have an excuse) and a sock blocker key chain!!

I got goodies from Tink, my SP and from my Sock Swap Pal Petra!!

*warning, Picture heavy post!!*

So first let's talk about the swap from Petra. She lives in Sweden, so we decided to do a yarn swap in addition to a sock swap.

Upon receiving hte package I ripped it open and actually remembered to take a picture:

then ripped everything open. I got some Evilla Artyarn which I have been DYING to try. For like a year, seriously. I am so excited to have this in my hot little hands:

That is the rainbow colorway. I also got some Jitterbug that I have been totally jonesing for:

This color is so amazingly gorgeous.

And finally the pies de resistance:

The absolutely most beautiful socks I have ever seen in my life. No joke.

They fit like a glove. I am so impressed, they are absolutely perfect in every way.

So then I also received a package from Tinkerbell, my AWESOME SP.

How exciting is that picture??

Look at all that cotton? I am so excited, I have been wanting to try the peaches and cream, because all I have ever used is the sugar and cream, but this stuff is SO much softer then the sugar and cream.

It is so hot, I am thinking about casting on a dishcloth tonight actually!!

Missing from that photo is the chocolate that little C stole and ran off with.

So thank you so much ladies!! You totally made my week!!

Socks, Yarn and a Sweater!!

So I finished my Sock Pal's Socks!! They are Coupling from the latest knitty. All in all a very enjoyable knit, though I did get SSS and had to take a 2 week break between socks. They are now all clean and blocked, and as soon as I pack up the box, I will be sending them off to Sweden!!

Petra, if you want to be surprised, don't look any further!!

I went to Lambtown in Dixon on Saturday with my mom, and I got a drop spindle, a niddy noddy and some roving. I learned to spin there, and have been practicing all weekend. I give you, my first handspun yarn:

It looks like yak but it is getting way better now, much more consistent. I made some more and plied it together and it is soaking right now to set the twist. If it turns out halfway decent I am going to knit it into a swatch and see what happens!!

Tinkerbell Rocks!!

I am doing the SP 9 from the Knitty Coffeeshop and we just got our first package today!! My wonderful SP Tinkerbell sent us some stitch markers, delicious smelling coffee, some YUMMY sockotta, which I am planning on casting on asap (after my sock swap pal's socks are done) some gorgeous bracelets for my C and a book for the little man!

Mystery Stole 3...

I was one of the first 100 to join Mystery Stole 3, not realizing that I was going to be part of something so huge!! Currently there are over 6000 members, all knitting the same design. How freaking cool is that??

Anyway, Clue 1 and 2 are already out, but I just finished knitting clue 1 tonight while the kids and hubbo slept. I am using Zephyr wool/silk in the color Cassis with black iridescent beads. It is turning out really nice I think!

I love it!! Even though it is hard and I can only knit it when my kids are asleep, I am loving it. :)

The Koigu Shawl

For Mothers Day, my mom got me a gift certificate to take a lace knitting class at the LYS because she knows I was loving knitting my Garden Path Shawl. I am so glad she did because I a) got to know the yumminess that is Koigu, and b) really really enjoyed knitting this pattern!!

Originally this was called the Gypsy Shawl by Koigu, but my instructor basically had to rewrite the entire thing, as the original shawl pattern basically made no sense.

It was such a joy to knit!! It starts out with a bunch of stockinette, which I modified to add the little "raspberries" you see above.

Then there are 3 different lace patterns for the bottom. The first is trellis lace, the second is feather lace and the third is little arrow lace. I don't know where my instructor got the stitch patterns, but I love them all.

And of course, my three year old had ot get in on the action again while photographing. She loves to model of my shawls!! She also helped me block it, and then proceeded to tell her dad exactly how to block things. "you get it in the sink and put water on it. Then you put lots of pins on the black thing that the cats scratch. Then you leave it alone and DON'T TOUCH IT or you get a time out."

Oh and I am well aware of the glaring error on the top of the shawl, but seing as I was about 6 inches past it and I had already ripped the sucker 5 times I decided to leave it.

Garden Path Shawl

It's done!! FINALLY!! Frickin A I thought this thing would never end. But it is and I am extremely happy with the results!

Pattern: Garden Path Shawl by Elann.com (free pattern)

Yarn: Pure Alpaca from Elann.com in the Forest Path colorway

Needles: Size 9 Lantern Moon

Start: March 2007
Finished: June 2007

Modifications: This shawl is huge. I mean HUGE. I omitted the last repeat of the pattern and it is still down past my rear. I adapted the edging pattern to fit without the last repeat of the round flowery things and steam blocked it. I didn't block the edges aggressively enough so they aren't as pointy as they could be, but I was so excited to wear it that I didn't feel like redoing it!! LOL

Would I knit it again? No way. Did I enjoy knitting it? Definitely. I have however decided that I prefer stockinette shawls to garter stitch shawls.

I made my first sweater!!

You have to ignore the dorky poses, I was playing with my kids at the same time.

Anyway, here are the specs:

Pattern: Cardigan for Arwen from Interweave Knits Fall 2006
Yarn: Knit Picks Andean Silk, Cornflower, 16 balls
Needles: Lantern Moon size 7 and 8
Started: January 1, 2007
Finished: May 4, 2007
Modifications: I didn't do the hood, because I don't wear hoods. Instead I did a single crocheted border around the neckline after I seamed everything together. I really like it.

The only downside to this sweater is that when I started it, I was 21 lbs heavier, so it is a bit big on me, but I don't care, I like it all slouchy.

Blocking was a BIOTCH though. Apparently because of the silk, it stretched out soooo much while blocking it. Originally the wingspan was 6 feet long, and I was totally freaked out. But thanks to all the lovely knitty heads, I squished all the stitches together and then left it alone for 5 days and they are still a bit long, but waaaaaay better.

So all in all I am really proud of my very first sweater!!

Woohoo!! My first Lace!

I finished my first lace ever!! I made my mom the Shetland Triange from Wrap Style, and she loved it!! I gave it to her for her birthday. It was much easier when I ran lifelines, and it was actually a really quick knit. IT took about 10 days from start to finish, and I have two small kids and a house to take care of!!

So here is the details:

Modifications: None. Now I wish I would have done a few more repeats of the fir cone pattern and made it bigger, as on my mom it is more of a scarf then a shawl, but oh well.

It's been awhile...

But I have been really busy!! I don't have a lot to say, last week was our 5 year anniversary, Oliver's baptism and Easter, which were all amazingly awesome. Then my kids got sick again so we have been taking it easy around the house etc. then I got sick so now I really haven't been doing much, LOL. But here are some pictures of the top down bonnet from Helloyarn.com. I used 2 strands of STR lightweight in the colorway Lucy. Size 3 needles were WAY too small so I jumped up to size 5 and it is still too small, so I may make another one in the child size.

And then, I finished my craft room!! I am very excited about this!!

A zoo is so much more fun...

When you have a three year old with you! We went to the Oakland Zoo yesterday and wow was it fun!! We used our new double stroller which was a DREAM to push around and I am so glad we got it. I didn't have a backache from carrying Mr. O around for 3 hours and C could ride in it whenever she got grumpy. SO FUN.

We saw tons of animals, and the zoo looks GREAT. They remodeled it within the last 10 years and it is just beautiful.

My favorite animals were the Elephant,

Monkey's made me Jaywalk!!

Well I finished my monkey socks!! And because I got a little over monkey'd before I started the second sock I finished my second jaywalker finally. And I hate them. But whatever I am giving them to my mom. So, here are the spec's!!

Needles:Knit picks DPNs US 1

Finished: Mar 12
Modifications: I used the toe up version for this jaywalker and used a shortrow heel instead of a flap to see how it fit. I definitely like heel flaps, so I will probably be knitting most of my socks cuff down from now on.

Notes: I absolutely detest these socks. Seriously, the colors make me think of puke. And they don't even match which makes me even angrier. Luckily my mom loves handmade socks and could give a crap about the color so woohoo!

And now....

My Monkey Socks!!! Holy canoli do I LOVE LOVE LOVE these socks. I never want to take them off!!!

Yarn: Socks that Rock mediumweight in Rhodonite
Needles: Knit picks DPNs US 3
Started: Mar 10
Finished: Mar 17
Modifications: I used size 3 needles to fit around my giant foot and ankle. I also changed the toe, more later.
Notes: Best and quickest pattern I have knit in a LONG time. This is seriously a great pattern and I will definitely make another pair in the future!!

Instead of taking th toe down to 28 stitches, I left it at 44 because I have an incredibly square toe. This is what happens when I make a toe like most people:

So I made the monkey much more square. And seriously I love it. From now on I am going to do the same, though I may have it at like 40 stitches instead. Whatever, I LOVE THESE SOCKS!!!

Endpaper Mitts

These were my second official stranded colorwork pattern. I am in LOVE with fair isle-ing!! I had so much fun making these, and they went so quick. I am still not totally comfortable with how to hold the yarn in my left hand but it is getting more comfortable, I don't know how to control the tension all that well. Anyway, here are the pics!!

Comments: I had to adjust the needle size due to guage problems, I am a really tight knitter, so I made these on size 3 and 5's instead of 0's and 3's. But they fit me perfectly, I made the largest size, as my measurement is 8.25. It was SUCH a fun knit though!! I think I might make another pair of these someday. My next colorwork project will be the anemoi mittens, but first I am halfway through the left front of the cardigan for arwen. It is turning out really nice, I am using knitpicks andean silk. Pictures of that to come!!

I love learning new techniques. I fair isled for the first time the other day. I would post a pic but I am afraid my SP might see (you never know!) so I will have to post a pic at a later date.

Anyway, because of my success I decided to make the endpaper mitts from Eunny. (Coincidentally I have wanted to make these things from the first time I heard the name. Endpaper Mitts. How freaking awesome is that name?)

Well you need to do a tubular cast on. Eunny prefers the Italian method, but after 4 tries and dropping a stitch EVERY SINGLE TIME, I decided to try the Turkish Tubular Cast on. It is a thing of beauty. I almost want to just use this cast on for everything from now on, it is so gorgeous. :) And of course I took pics:

My SP is so awesome!! She sent me all kinds of goodies!! I got some bubble bath stuff, some scrapping goodies, some yarn, C got some socks and little man got a bib!!

And also, I made a
slingshot during the superbowl!! I was done by the time the game was over, a very quick knit!!

Modifications: I used size 3 needles, and I actually wish I had used size 4. I couldn't get guage on ones like it called for, but I am really tight knitter, which is actually the main problem I had. It called for a "tight" bind off so that the cup wouldn't slip through, however, even on the three's, I think I bound off TOO tightly as evidenced by this picture:

You can see I couldn't make the finishing look nice and also have it fit around the coffee cup, so I chose to have it look a little crappy and have it fit.

So I think I am addicted to Socks that Rock. I just bought 4 more skeins when they came out with their new colors. Behold...

So I had another colorway, called Chapman Springs. I am making a pair in Christmas Balls, but I wanted to something a little different with the Chapman Springs. So I decided to make a
Dreamswatch headscarf. (that is a pdf btw) It is so fantastic and working up really really fast. I started last night during the office, earl and grey's and I only need about 8 or 9 more repeats to be done! I am very excited, I LOVE the way it is turning out!

And as I was knitting away I looked over and I spied this:

:( At only 5 months, he is finally able to move forward bit by bit. Not full out crawling, but forward motion has been achieved!!

*sigh* so stinkin big.

I used almost an entire skein of Lorna's Laces to make this jaywalker and I realized when taking the picture that I really have huge feet. I mean, yes they are 10.5, it isn't like I can't find shoes to fit. But when you look at the cuff, which is 5 inches long, and then the foot which is huge, it looks big.

As you can see I embraced the striping on the sock because I just want a d*mn pair of socks of my own!! So one down and one to go. I am not quite feeling the second sock syndrome, so much as I have so many things I want to knit. Luckily I have finished the baby sweater and dishcloth for a baby/housewarming gift for my friend Crystal. But now I have *other* things that all seem pressing. :)

WHY do you torment me so?? I got this gorgeous yarn, wound it into a ball and excitedly started knitting. Isn't it fantastic? Not really. Here is why:

Soft warm yumminess...

And it's all for me!! I made Calorimetry today all for my self! (Gee can you tell I have been knitting lots of gifts lately?) It knit up so fast, I made it one afternoon. (didn't even start till almost 4PM and was done by 9, with 2 kids and a husband to take care of )

I absolutely love the yarn, it is so fun to work with. Super soft and shows stitch detail amazingly well. I used SWS in the color Natural Plum, with size 8 addi turbo's. I modified the pattern by only doing 5 repeats of the increases and 7 repeats of the decreases, to make it fit for me. I know there are some problems with it being to big for some people, and if I had done the 15 and 17 repeats like it said it would have fit a gorilla I think, LOL.

I love the way the stripes look, as well as the way they go into points at the corners. This will be my new last minute gift!!

:) I finished fetching! I am thrilled with how they turned out! I used Swiss Wool Stripes in Natural denim on size 6 dpns. The only used one skein which was amazing, I am so thrilled I can add these to my "one skein" projects. Especially becuase they are so stinking cute. They took about 2 days, again which is amazing because with two small children I don't have tons of knitting time. I will definitely make these again, but I think the next pair just might be for me. :)

My first sock, done!!

Woohoo!! I finished it last night. I am in love, it is so comfy, like a slipper, LOL. Lorna's laces rock.

Next on the needles is a pair of "purple socks" for my dear little daughter.

And look at the picture I got of them today! I was shocked that I got them both smiling at the same time! Especially since he has only been smiling for about 3 weeks, LOL!

Knitting is just great. Currently I am working on my first pair of socks. I can't wait to finish them and walk around in them. My mom wants to take them from me, but I don't know if I will let her have them, LOL. I am currently turning this:

Up next is a baby sweater and maybe some more socks. And a hat for Dh and C. Ohhhh so many projects to do!!

Something about this pregnancy has made me crochet and knit like a fiend. In the past month I have either knitted or crocheted:

4 baby blankets
1 full size afghan
5 small purses
4 big purses
3 Ipod cozies
a set of coasters
2 hot pads
A doily

And am currently knitting yet another bag. Then after that I plan on making a bag for Crystal to take trick or treating. Ummmm yeah. At least my nervous energy is going to good use!!
